 The idea for the Russian-American Cultural Festival came about in 2006, when AM-RU International Association initiated the Russian and American Folk style events, to show the preservation of folk music and dance into the 21st century. Later we decided to name our Festival – " Soberiha", this Russian word came from an ancient times and means - We gather together.The American-Russian Cultural Festival “Soberiha” is designed to make exchange of the cultural heritage including art, music, traditional Russian and American food and business of the Russian speaking and American population of the Vancouver/Portland area and its surroundings (The total Russian speaking population of this area is over 140,000).
" Soberiha", a family oriented event, is sponsored and produced by the AM-RU International Association, with the support of its friends and partners, Vancouver City, Russian Consulate from Seattle, local Russian businesses and individuals. About 3,500-5,000 of Russian and non-Russian speaking visitors attend our Festival.
“Soberiha” demonstrates a successful public-private partnership venture and citizen and community collaboration, which gives an opportunity for the community at large to experience, enjoy and share the cultural heritage of its members. The Festival is filled with live Russian and American music and dances, special games and activities for the children, craft and food vendors.
You will enjoy to see our beautiful girls in colorful sarafans - the traditional Russian folk dresses, to participate in funny auction and joyful contests, to sing Russian and American songs together with performers and much more. "Soberiha" helps bring American and Russian speaking people together and keeps Russian traditions alive.
